Mine Planning
Pre-Feasibility (PFS) for major multi-metal mine in Southeast Alaska. This study included primary and secondary development design and ramp rehab design of a mining area of the mine that had been developed in the 1980-90’s. Limited production mining occurred prior to a mine shutdown in the early 1990’s. The purpose of this study was to determine how to re-access the area using the existing access points, and design of new development and infrastructure.

The client provided an ore reserve model in DataMine which was converted into NSR cut-off grade shells in Vulcan software and a specific area of the current ore reserves for the study. Ore polygons above the cut-off grade were created in Vulcan. These reserves were then sequenced using three different mining method options which included, cut and fill, combination cut and fill and longitudinal long hole, and longitudinal long hole mining.

SOFTWARE USEDVulcan Design Software, Vent-Sim Ventilation Modeling
Economic studies were conducted on the various possible mining methods and it was determined that cut and fill mining would be the most efficient and cost effective. Roughstock determined the underground equipment and manpower needs and designed upgrades and additions necessary to existing infrastructure.

The ventilation system for this mine was modeled using Vent-Sim modeling software. The new ventilation system was required to have no impact, or a positive impact, on the existing mine, and allow adequate ventilation to the new mining areas while staying within the MHSA DPM parameters. With our expertise, Roughstock designed a ventilation system for the new mine area without impact to the existing mine.
